3D Travel, Inc. was officially incorporated in mid-2010. It was the release of Google Earth™ that initially inspired Team Vision’s founder to set out to create the first fully-interactive, 3D travel planning website for Hawaii. In 2008, when Google Earth™ announced the release of its API plug-in, which for the first time allowed users to view Google Earth™ within a web browser, 3D Travel's founder knew that the vision of creating web-based virtual travel destinations was now possible.
With the major building blocks in place, 3D Travel, Inc. obtained investment from Ohana Holdings (eBay founder Pierre Omidyar's fund) and started development on a web-based platform designed to empower businesses to create and manage their own 3D web sites with localized travel content in virtual destination environments.
In July 2010, 3D Travel, Inc. launched 3DHawaii
, the first of its planned 3D travel sites. The concept was so appealing that major clients such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Hilton Hotels & Resorts and the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center signed on well before the site went live.
was launched on 3D Travel's v2 technology platform and included major clients such as MGM Resorts International. The company launched its third destination website, 3DSanFrancisco
, in 2012.
3D Travel’s new “Powered By” Private Label platform, part of the v2 upgrade, combines the company’s technology platform, 3D building libraries, and multi-lingual content network to provide any business with the tools needed to rapidly deploy a custom-branded, 3D destination website.
3D Travel's acquisition of a last minute travel deals app in late 2012, followed by the formation of a joint venture with a leading Japanese travel content development and publishing company in early 2013 , has rounded out the company's offerings and opened up opportunities for expansion into Asia.
3D Travel, Inc. has built a world-class team
with offices in Hawaii and California, and is planning the launch of additional 3D travel destinations and Private Label sites in the coming months.
