Second place is losing (they say) and not worth crowing about, but our scrappy team came just inches shy of glory at last night's Stump! trivia smackdown at The Manifest, and I can't help but think a victory is, well, manifest.

Our team of Christine, Jessica and Justin got a nice assist from new friend Mikey Inouye who was handy with knowledge of Kurt Vonnegut, Steven Soderburgh movies starring George Clooney and documentaries about Vogue, but our team was ultimately undone by bad point management in the last two rounds. (I'll fall on the sword there.) And who knew the Smurfs were first introduced in the 1950s, not the 1980s?

Another able assist may have come from a new element: We brought in pizza from neighboring JJ Dolan's (margherita, with tons of basil). So if 1 pizza + Deschutes beers = 2nd place, then maybe 2 pizzas + Hapa ale = Victory? We'll keep refining the equation, rest assured.

We placed third in points, but the second place team was DQ'ed for having seven people (six is the max). The victors get to pose with the bowling trophy and are on the VIP list for First Friday, which is a major coup if you've wandered through the monster crowds of hipsters during that event. Alas, we'll have to handle those challenging Chinatown streets without VIP status but... oh, I think we'll manage.
