Show Media ItemShow Media Item - 'Hawaii Five-0' premiere at Waikiki Beach

'Hawaii Five-0' premiere at Waikiki Beach

It was a C-R-O-W-D, and part of that is the hype surrounding the reincarnation of the classic series, but I can't help but wonder if it's also because everyone misses Sunset on the Beach. The movie-on-the-beach program fell victim to city budget cuts and is now held infrequently, but CBS pulled it off with big-time sponsor Chevy. C'mon Honolulu, can we get a sponsor?

The series main stars were on the red carpet (Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim), as well as Al Harrington from the original series. Terrific entertainment from Willie K and others while fans waited under a very hot September sun — people were grateful for that sunset when it came.

Many people had camped out all day to get close to the 30-foot screen.

The empty red carpet where cameramen await.

I so wanted to jump in the water! But the EVO phone and Kodak Zi8 cam probably wouldn't have handled too well. The south shore was enjoying a nice swell.

Daniel Dae Kim is interviewed by local affiliate Hawaii News Now.

Grace Park (in black) is queried by reporter Malika Dudley as she heads to the media line.

The red carpet in full swing. Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle wades into the fans.

Lots of people stretched out behind the screen, where you could still easily see the show, with a backward projected image.

People lined up on Kapahulu Groin to watch.

From across the street. Packed to the hilt.
