    Spotting scenes from 'Hawaii Five-0'

The stars of "Hawaii Five-0" atop the iconic Ilikai Hotel, where Jack Lord was introduced in the opening credits of the original series. From left: Grace Park, Scott Caan, Alex O'Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kim. Photo: Art Streiber, CBS.

During the six-year run of "Lost," we'd have parties and name the sites on the Island where they were filming. It made for some good comedy. The Ala Wai Boat Harbor was Sydney, Australia. The canal was Korea. And, of course, Kualoa Ranch and Mokuleia served as a mythical island that channeled eletromagnetic energy and time itself.

Now we've got the reboot of "Hawaii Five-0," and a new series of locally shot scenes featuring Oahu's stunning locations. Lots of tight action sequences featuring the kind of violence you'd be hard pressed to find on the Island, but we'll suspend disbelief and go with the Hollywood flow. Besides, with the all-new 3D capabilities of our site which launched a couple months after "Lost" concluded, you can now FLY to the filming sites.

    Let's go!

The opening sequence starred Kualoa Ranch, standing in for Korea, where Det. Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) was transferring a criminal whose brother killed his father. See Kualoa Ranch in 3D »

Pearl Harbor was the backdrop for the meeting between McGarrett and Hawaii's governor (Jean Smart), and where McGarrett reconnects with Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim). They were chums at "Kukui High School." (Couldn't they have used a real high school name?)

What I loved in the premiere were the sweeping coastal shots of the island: Really played up Oahu's stunning natural features. One coming back from a commercial break was of the reef off Kahala, leading up to Doris Duke Beach »

McGarrett's dad's house is in the laid-back, tony beach neighborhood of Lanikai. The man must have had cash in the bank.

Aliiolani Hale, above, which houses the Hawaii State Supreme Court, was the external facade for McGarrett's new crime unit's office. You can see it behind the King Kamehameha statue. The old Honolulu Advertiser building hosted the unit's interior shots.

Some nice rock-jumping action in Waimea Bay, as well as Grace Park's debut as Kono, a cop and one-time would-be surfer. She took out another surfer with a right hook. Guess you don't drop in on Kono.

Final scenes included the big shootout at Honolulu Harbor, and coastal views of Diamond Head from the point where the lighthouse is.

Here's a teaser to next week's episode. Happy scene hunting, Oahu fans!
