It may seem to the outside eye that Hawaii is a state of casual wear and slippers. And that's true for the most part, but we have some talented, fashion-forward designers and labels like Fighting Eel, Alliway and Acid Dolls, just to name a few. The latter debuted its Fall/Winter 2010 line this weekend, a party attended by 3DHawaii's marketing gal and avid fashionista Jessica Pang. Here's her report:

Urban Revolution,
Royal Hawaiian Center

Innovative local designer Acid Dolls threw a highly anticipated fashion soiree Saturday night – Urban Revolution – on the 4^th floor terrace of the Royal Hawaiian Center. My friends and I were there to check out the new lines and toast our friend Richard Togami, who launched his men’s line, Vice Classics.

As classical music filled the air, we noshed on open-bar cocktails and pupus from Doraku Sushi, Senor Frogs and Panda Express, walked the red carpet and posed for photos.  Around 8 p.m., the music switched to up-tempo DJ Ill Phil who got everyone in a dancing mood. Emcee Justin Cruz (weatherman with local KHON2) warmed up the crowd with a few contests and I was pulled up to the runway to deliver a weather report, right. (I did my best to get through it without saying “um” or “uh.”)  Once the contests, acknowledgments and introductions were done, the show began. 

For the ladies...

The women’s line was cute, flirty and fun. Designers included Shimmer and Lace as well as Cindy King for the 2010 Fall/Winter Collection for Acid Dolls. Sexy dresses, including modest peek-a-boo slits, small fringe accents, and great cuts that made them flow ever so perfectly on the runway. The rompers and one-pieces were bold and exciting – some looked great for day wear, others were made for an elegant night.  The tops and shirts ranged from low cuts with exquisite draping to professional and classy.  The unforgettable prints of the leggings and stockings pulled the pieces together and added some drama to everyday wear.

... and the gents

On the men’s side, we were impressed with the Vice Classics array of special denim pants cuts and washes inspired by 21^st century Japanese culture and style, and trendy collar shirts that take the popular flannel collar shirts and add details to clean it up – perfect for a date or a night out on the town.

All the models were gorgeous and did a good job. Congratulations to Acid Dolls, Taken Magazine and everyone else who put this event together – a fun and unforgettable night!
